The Rio Rancho Youth Chorus (RR-YC) was founded to provide middle-school and high-school students an educational, artistic, and enjoyable choral experience, seeks an energetic, caring, and creative accompanist. Our mission is one of excellence, opportunity, caring, and inclusion. The repertoire ranges from choral music from a Western European tradition to folk music from multiple cultures and languages to pop and music theatre choral music that may involve movement and dance! The RRYC accompanist would have the skills and experience in multiple styles and genres of music, have the technical skills to play challenging pieces and have the rhythmical ear to handle syncopation and groove.
Position Summary:
The RRYC accompanist has a passion and the patience for working with sixth through 12-grade students across a full range from beginners who are unsure of themselves to advanced students with the passion to pursue a career in the performing arts. The accompanist must have the patience to work with these students of all musical abilities, whether working one-on-one for solo accompanying or assisting with the teaching of harmony parts to various sections of the ensemble. The accompanist will be an important part of the creative team, working directly with the artistic director to achieve a high level of musical accuracy and sensitivity and contributing ideas to the discussion about concert production.
The RRYC has two concert seasons per year of approximately 14 weeks each. The accompanist should be present and prepared for each weekly two-hour rehearsal, one dress rehearsal per concert, and two concert performances per season.
